The history of Ambrose Bros. traces back to the late 1940s, when D.E. Ambrose returned to New Hampshire after serving in the Seabees during World War II. Together with his two sons, David Ambrose and Paul “Bud” Ambrose, both WWII veterans in their own right, D.E. used the knowledge and experience he gained building airstrips, bridges and roads during the war to form D.E. Ambrose & Sons, a small excavation and road construction company. The company’s original 1954 Northwest excavator sits outside its present day offices at 405 Daniel Webster Highway in Meredith. In 1961, after their father retired, Bud and David changed the company name to Ambrose Bros. Bud ran the company until 1988, when he transferred ownership to his two sons, Bob and Ed. Bud’s grandson, Rob, joined the company in 2005.
